The Kremlin reported today that there was contact between Britain's national security adviser Jonathan Powell and Russian President Vladimir Putin's foreign policy adviser Yuri Ushakov, but the talks did not lead to any development, „Reuters“ reported, quoted by BTA.

According to information from the Financial Times, Powell made an attempt to establish a communication channel with Moscow, as London and its European allies fear that the administration of US President Donald Trump may ignore their interests regarding the war in Ukraine.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov confirmed the contacts, but stressed that Britain had not shown a willingness to listen to Russia's position on the conflict.

„There were indeed contacts. "There was a dialogue, but it did not continue," Peskov said, without specifying when exactly the talks took place.
