United States President Donald Trump views Hungary as a reliable partner and ally, said Minister for European Affairs Janos Boka, quoted by the Hungarian news agency MTI, BTA reports.
According to him, the peace initiative proposed by Trump is “the only serious peace initiative on the table today“. Hungary supports it with all available means and seeks to contribute to its success, Boka stressed.
The minister noted that the coalition of countries working to achieve peace can cooperate effectively, and Budapest continues to play a leading role in the process. He added that a summit between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in the Hungarian capital “remains on the agenda“.
Boca also pointed out that Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has managed to maintain administratively regulated utility prices, thanks to which Hungarian households continue to pay the lowest prices in Europe - “despite all the intrigues and obstacles from Brussels“.
According to him, the European Commission continues “in a completely irrational and unjustified manner“ to insist that Hungary abandon cheap Russian energy sources. However, the government will defend this policy as long as it has the support of the voters.
The minister added that supplies of equipment for the “Paks“ nuclear power plant have already been diversified. “All American concerns about the modernization of the plant have been dispelled. "Cooperation with Washington now includes the development of small modular reactors," he said.
"It is important that the United States provides Hungary with a financial shield that will allow it to withstand the attacks expected in the coming months from Brussels and international markets," Boka concluded.
