US envoy Steve Witkoff announced that Ukraine and Russia have agreed to hold a new prisoner exchange at trilateral talks in Abu Dhabi, which the envoy described as "productive", Agence France-Presse reported.

The agency notes that the settlement of other issues related to ending the ongoing fourth year of war appears to be stalled.

"Today, the delegations of the United States, Ukraine and Russia agreed to exchange 314 prisoners - the first exchange of this type in five months," Witkoff reported on his "Ex" profile.

"This result was achieved thanks to in-depth and productive peace negotiations. "While significant work remains, progress like this shows that sustained diplomatic engagement is yielding concrete results and contributing to efforts to end the war in Ukraine," he assured.

Negotiations "continue" and today, Diana Davityan, spokeswoman for the head of the Ukrainian delegation, Rustem Umerov, announced, in turn.

Washington has been making diplomatic efforts for months to find a solution, but so far the only concrete results have been several exchanges of prisoners of war and the bodies of dead soldiers.

Russia yesterday again demanded that Ukraine meet its demands, increasing doubts about the chances of success of the negotiations, which were initiated by US President Donald Trump.

"Until the Kiev regime makes the appropriate decision, the special military operation will continue," warned Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov.

Moscow is demanding that Kiev give up the entire Donetsk region, including the areas controlled by the Ukrainian army, in exchange for a possible freezing of the front line.

Ukraine refuses to give up the area where its main defense lines against Russian attacks are located, but fears that Washington will not support Moscow's position. Moreover, President Trump has cut off almost all military aid to Kiev since returning to the White House a year ago and, unlike his predecessor Joe Biden, is presenting himself as a mediator in this conflict, not a supporter of Ukraine.
