US President Donald Trump said the US is committed to providing $10 billion to the Peace Council, but did not specify what the funds would be used for, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

Trump also said that the countries participating in the council will provide more than $7 billion to alleviate the situation in Gaza.

“I am pleased to announce that Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, the UAE, Morocco, Bahrain, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Uzbekistan and Kuwait will contribute more than $7 billion to the aid package“, Trump announced during the first meeting of the Peace Council in Washington.

US President Donald Trump, along with Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio, posed for a group photo with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Indonesia and Qatar, among others, before the start of discussions on the various components of the peace plan for the Gaza Strip, the Associated Press reported.

A number of world leaders, including Argentine President Javier Milley and Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban, wore red hats with the words “USA” and an American flag on the side and placed them on tables next to their countries' flags.

Trump convened today's meeting of the Peace Council with representatives from more than 40 countries and observers from dozens of others, which aims to focus on rebuilding Gaza and creating an international stabilization force.

Trump earlier said that the council members had pledged $5 billion for the reconstruction of Gaza - a small fraction of the $70 billion needed by some estimates. The countries are also expected to commit to providing thousands of troops for international stabilization forces and police.

Some observers fear that Trump wants to create a rival organization to the United Nations, the AP notes.
