An activated but damaged missile launcher of the Danish Navy has caused the closure of airspace and the suspension of sea traffic in the Great Belt Strait, the Danish armed forces said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
Earlier, the Danish National Maritime Administration warned that due to the risk of "falling missile debris" one should not cross the strait, which is one of the busiest sea lanes in the world and a major sea route to the Baltic Sea.
"The problem occurred during a mandatory test where the rocket launcher was activated and could not be deactivated," according to the Danish military. Until deactivation, there is a risk that a missile could be launched and fly "several kilometers".
A warning has been issued that a naval exercise is taking place in the area. The warning covers an area with a radius of about four kilometers south of the bridge that crosses the strait. However, it remains open for passage, according to the operator.
