US: Israel has not presented a credible plan for Rafah

Washington has repeatedly warned Tel Aviv against launching a large-scale offensive against the Islamist group Hamas in the city.

The United States said that Israel has not yet presented a convincing plan to protect the civilian population in the event of a ground attack in the city of Rafah in the Gaza Strip, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

US President Joe Biden's national security adviser, Jake Sullivan, said in Washington that he had yet to see a "convincing and workable plan" for the evacuation and displacement of people in Rafah. He said Israel has not provided detailed data on how civilians can be accommodated and provided with medical care.

Sullivan emphasized that there are channels of communication with the Israeli government.

As its most important ally, the US has repeatedly warned Israel against launching a large-scale offensive against the Islamist organization "Hamas" in Rafah, where more than one million Palestinian civilians have sought refuge from the fighting.

The US government believes a large-scale ground attack in Rafah is wrong and has discussed alternatives with Israel.

However, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Monday night that the date for the military operation had already been set.
