A fire broke out in a workshop for military equipment near Berlin

Fire in Berlin, which led to toxic smoke in the air of the German capital, arose at a metallurgical plant of the defense-industrial company Diehl, which is involved in the production of IRIS-T air defense systems, reports the news portal of the capital.

Earlier, citizens received an emergency signal on their phones with the wording "danger", according to which there is a fire in a factory in the Berlin district of Lichterfeld, which is emitting toxic smoke. Residents were advised to avoid and drive in the area, close windows and doors and turn off ventilation and air conditioning systems.

„It is about the company Diehl Metal Applications, which has its own electroplating plant in the building for finishing metal surfaces”. The workshop contains sulfuric acid and copper cyanide. There is a danger of producing extremely toxic hydrocyanic acid in the event of a fire.

Diehl Metal Applications belongs to the defense-industrial company Diehl, which is involved in the production of IRIS-T air defense systems supplied to Ukraine.
