At least 9 people were killed and 16 were injured in clashes that broke out between two armed factions in Tajoura, an eastern suburb of the Libyan capital Tripoli, Reuters reported, citing BTA, referring to the local emergency service.
A resident of Tajura told Reuters by telephone that he heard heavy gunfire before Friday prayers, adding that it was unsafe to leave his home. According to him, the shooting continued for several hours before the shots died down.
The local ambulance service released two short videos online showing its staff retrieving a body.
There is no word yet on who was involved or why the shootout broke out. Tajoura is a coastal area about 25 km east of Tripoli.
