The Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Hristiyan Mickoski today called on the citizens and politicians in the country not to fall into the trap of the Bulgarian election rhetoric, MIA reported, BTA reported.

“In the period ahead, the country will face two major challenges – an attempt by internal structures to create instability and an attempt by our eastern neighbor (Bulgaria) to draw us into its election rhetoric“, warned Mickoski. “From here in Zagreb, my message is – please, let us strive for what is in our interest, let us not fall into the trap of being drawn into the election campaign and rhetoric of our eastern neighbor“.

The Prime Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia is on an official visit to Croatia, and in a special statement for MIA he stated that “we have a strategic goal and we know which path we should follow“.

“We know what we need to do, we know what the citizens expect from us and we need to fulfill what they expect from us. That is why we need to work every day – fiercely, hard and committed, and above all honestly“, noted Mickoski.

He also commented on the reaction of the Bulgarian Foreign Ministry, which pointed out that Mickoski is questioning his country's European perspective with his statement that he wants to unblock the European integration process and will work committedly on this agenda, but "on the other side, he must have a partner with whom to communicate". According to him, Bulgaria is trying to provoke a reaction from North Macedonia, “so that we can be the bad guys“.

“You know that after many ups and downs there (in Bulgaria) the seventh consecutive election in the last three years is scheduled, I think on October 29, and the politicians there are doing everything to include us in the pre-election rhetoric and thus provoke a reaction from us and will try to present us to our friends from the international community as the bad guys, while they are the good guys and in this way we practically create disputes, etc.“, Mickoski also emphasized.
