Libyan authorities have busted a human-trafficking criminal group and arrested its members, the main prosecutor's office of the country on its Facebook page, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
Authorities have detained one of the group's leaders and ten of its members, who are accused of murder, illegal detention, torture and rape of migrants, the announcement said.
The investigation found crimes affecting 1,300 migrants, including cases of forcible detention, torture and extortion for the release of victims.
Human traffickers who operate with impunity in Libya have sent hundreds of thousands of migrants by sea to Europe, mainly Italy, since 2014. Thousands died on the journey.
