North Korean leader Kim Jong-un said he will speed up steps to turn North Korea into a military superpower with nuclear weapons and does not rule out the possibility of using them if enemies attack it, KCTA news agency reported this morning, citing BTA, citing his speech at a local university.

According to Kim Jong Un, he has no intention of attacking South Korea, but "if the enemy tries to use force against our country", the North Korean military will use all its might without hesitation, which "does not rule out the use of nuclear weapons".

The KCTA notes that the North Korean leader has also called for a broad strengthening of North Korea's defenses.

Kim Jong-un also sent a message on the occasion of yesterday's birthday to Russian President Vladimir Putin, the agency adds.

Kim Jong-un called Putin his "closest comrade", saying that "strategic ties and cooperative relations" between the two countries will be raised to a new level to work for the "protection of regional and world peace and international justice".
