Russia wants to understand what motivated US President Donald Trump's statement that Moscow must agree to a peace agreement in Ukraine within 50 days. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, quoted by “Reuters“ and TASS, BTA reports.

At a press conference on the sidelines of the 25th meeting of foreign ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) in the Chinese city of Tianjin, Lavrov stressed that Russia will cope with any new sanctions, regardless of pressure.

“Of course, we want to understand what is behind this statement [by Trump] - 50 days. Before there were 24 hours, there were 100 days, we went through all this and we really want to understand what motivates the president of "USA," Lavrov said.

He added that Trump is under "huge, I would say indecent pressure" from the European Union and NATO leadership, which, he said, unceremoniously support the demands of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.

"They continue to supply him with modern, including offensive, weapons at the expense of increasingly serious damage to taxpayers in Western countries," Lavrov concluded.
