Zakharova: Europe is paying for weapons that bring not life, but death

The Russian diplomat compared military aid to Ukraine to a paid meal for a dying person, in response to Kaia Kallas' criticism of the American strategy

The spokeswoman for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova criticized the European Union's decision to finance new supplies of American weapons to Ukraine, calling it a senseless act. In a statement on her Telegram channel, she said that the aid is reminiscent of a situation in which “Europeans pay for food for a dying person“, reports Focus.

The reason for her comment was a statement by the head of European diplomacy Kaia Kallas. She expressed doubts that if Europe finances the weapons provided to Ukraine, the US can actually be considered their supplier.

“If you promise to provide weapons, but say that someone else will pay for them, then you haven't actually provided them, right?“, said Kallas.

In response, Zakharova wrote:
“Has Kaya begun to realize something? I will help: it's like saying that you will pay for a meal, and someone else eats it and then dies. Isn't that right?“

We recall that Kaya Kallas called on the US to “share the burden“ of military aid to Ukraine, commenting on Donald Trump's proposal to sell weapons through NATO. She made the remarks at a press conference following a meeting of the EU Foreign Affairs Council on Tuesday.

Kallas welcomed the commitment to supply weapons to Ukraine, but stressed:
“If we pay for these weapons, that is our support. Europe is doing everything it can to help Ukraine, and we expect the same from others. If you promise weapons but say someone else will pay for them, that is not real support.“
