The Iranian parliament has announced that the country will not resume nuclear talks with the United States until preconditions are met, „Reuters“ reported, quoted by News.bg.
„As long as the US uses the negotiations as a tool to deceive Iran and cover up a sudden military attack by the Zionist regime (Israel), talks in the previous format are not possible. "Clear preconditions must be set and met before new negotiations can begin," the parliament said.
Although the conditions were not specified, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi said guarantees were needed against future attacks on Tehran.
Last month, Israel and the United States launched strikes on Iranian nuclear facilities, citing suspicions that the program was aimed at developing nuclear weapons. Tehran denies this and says its nuclear program is only for civilian purposes.
Before the air war, Iran and the United States held five rounds of indirect talks mediated by Oman, but Washington's demands for Tehran to halt uranium enrichment remained unanswered.
Last week, Abbas Araqchi confirmed that Iran would not agree to a deal that limits uranium enrichment and would not discuss other topics outside its nuclear program, including ballistic missiles.
US President Donald Trump said yesterday that he was in no hurry to negotiate with Iran, as he said its nuclear facilities had already been "destroyed". Meanwhile, the US, along with France, Britain and Germany, have set a deadline of the end of August for reaching an agreement.
French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot warned that if there is no progress by then, the three European countries will trigger the mechanism for the rapid reinstatement of UN sanctions against Iran.
