The Israeli military said it struck energy infrastructure used by Yemeni Houthi rebels, backed by Iran, in an area south of the Yemeni capital Sanaa early this morning, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
According to Israeli media reports, the power plant in Haziz was hit, causing temporary power outages. The military said in a statement that the strikes were carried out in response to the Houthis' continued attacks on Israel, including the firing of rockets and drones at Israeli territory.
Israeli media earlier reported that the attack on the power plant in Haziz near the Yemeni capital was carried out by the Israeli navy. The Houthi rebels' Al-Masirah TV said the power plant was hit by "aggression" that knocked out some of its generators, but did not say who carried out the attack.
Firefighters and rescue teams managed to put out the fire that broke out in the attack, Al-Masirah also reported, citing the deputy prime minister. At least two explosions were heard early this morning near a power plant in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, residents told Reuters earlier.
