What is the real life of mass-produced Chinese cars? - 1

The question of the real resource and durability of Chinese cars is becoming increasingly relevant in our country, especially against the background of their increasingly aggressive entry into the domestic market. Although the warranty terms look attractive on paper — ranging from the standard 3 years or 100,000 km to bolder offers for 5 or 7 years for certain brands — There is a significant difference between the warranty and the real life of a machine.

It is a well-known fact that warranty commitments mainly cover manufacturing defects, the operating life determined by the factory is a statistically calculated period, after the expiration of which the manufacturer takes responsibility, leaving maintenance entirely in the hands of the owner.

In our climatic and road conditions, this is reflected differently in popular Asian brands. Chery models, for example, declare a resource of about 7 years or 200,000 km, supported by specific programs for out-of-warranty maintenance, but in practice they often show whims in the electronics and transmission already during their warranty period.

On the other hand, representatives of Geely and Haval rely on a design life of 5 to 6 years (respectively also about 200,000 km). The experience of the service stations shows that they pass their warranty period relatively smoothly, but then require significantly more frequent and expensive maintenance visits.

In parallel with them, another key player on the Bulgarian market — MG Motor — relies on one of the most generous factory warranties in Europe, covering a full 7 years or 150,000 km. This brand, which combines its British heritage and its Asian production resources, reveals a similar dynamic: the first three to four years pass almost entirely without serious technical shocks. However, service engineers in our country note that after crossing the mark of about 100,000 km, multimedia systems, auxiliary electronic sensors and some suspension elements begin to require more regular maintenance, although the main power units maintain a stable resource.

In the conventional and hybrid models of Dongfeng, offered on our domestic market with a warranty of 5 years or 150,000 km, the picture is quite similar, but with a focus on mechanics. Since the brand uses proven engineering solutions and joint developments with established global concerns, its atmospheric and turbo engines show high resistance to intensive urban and extra-urban use. The practice of service stations in Bulgaria shows that the main critical point in these cars is not the engines, but the resistance of the anti-corrosion protection of the chassis to more severe winter conditions and chemicals on our roads, as well as the timely replacement of consumables, which is directly related to the preservation of the factory resource.

That is why when choosing such a car in Bulgaria, experts advise not to focus solely on the loud marketing promises of a warranty, but to take into account the design resource, the availability of spare parts and the expected costs of servicing in the longer term.
