On April 29, Cupra will present the updated Formentor and Leon in Madrid. While full details have yet to be revealed, a sneak peek at the facelifted design hints at exciting changes, particularly to the taillights, which showcase new styling in line with the promised new Cupra design language.
Significant updates are expected under the hood, with the introduction of new plug-in hybrid options expected. These hybrids will likely feature a combination of a 1.5 TSI engine and an electric motor, providing a system output of 204 to 272 horsepower and an electric range of approximately 100 kilometers according to WLTP standards. In addition, mild hybrid gasoline engines and a 2.0 diesel engine with 150 horsepower are expected to enter the range.
One of the highlights could be the inclusion of a 333 horsepower 2.0 turbo petrol engine sourced from the new Audi S3 and paired with all-wheel drive. However, the return of the 2.5-litre five-cylinder engine currently found in the Formentor VZ5 is unlikely.
Updates to the Cupra Formentor and Leon also extend to the interior, promising "stronger digitalisation". Addressing previous issues with the infotainment system, the introduction of the new MIB4 system is expected to significantly improve usability, featuring larger screens and improved functionality already seen in the latest models across the Volkswagen Group.
