India urges exporters not to panic over US tariffs - 1

Indian Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has urged exporters not to panic amid Washington's new trade policies and assured them that India is working to achieve the right balance in the bilateral trade agreement with the US, the press service of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry of the South Asian republic announced after a meeting between Goyal and representatives of Indian exports.

According to the Indian minister, the countries have different attitudes towards the introduction of new tariffs by the US. “However, as far as India is concerned, the country has the potential to increase production and create additional jobs as it can attract major players in the global supply chain as India has been able to establish itself as a reliable partner and a predictable destination for business-friendly activities“, he said.

The Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry assured that New Delhi is “proactive and looking for solutions that are in the best interest of the nation“. “The team involved in the negotiations with the US on the agreement is striving for the right balance“, he stressed.

Goyal urged exporters “not to panic and look for positives in the current scenario“. He assured that New Delhi is acting “quickly but without unnecessary haste to ensure the right outcome for the country“. “The [Indian] government will work to create a conducive environment that will allow it to successfully navigate the latest developments in world trade,“ concluded the Indian minister.
