The European Commission (EC) has spent nearly 339 million euros on contracts with companies linked to Elon Musk, the European publication Politico reported.
The European Space Agency has spent 180 million euros in 2024 on contracts with Musk's company SpaceX to launch satellites to improve Europe's global navigation system. 158 million euros were spent on agreements with Tesla to ensure the construction of charging stations for electric vehicles across Europe. In addition, 630,000 euros were spent on buying ads on X (formerly Twitter), which Musk acquired in 2022. The European Commission has clarified that it has stopped buying ads on this platform from October 2023.
Politico's data is based on the EC's response to a request from the MEP from the “Green” party Daniel Freund, who in March called on it to publish the entire list of EU funds transferred to the American billionaire's companies.
