"Europe "cut off" its legs when it decided to refuse cheap energy from Russia. The press secretary of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov stated this on the sidelines of the International Economic Forum in St. Petersburg.
The Kremlin representative noted that Europe, which has always been associated with prosperity and tranquility, has found itself in a terrible situation because all this was based on two foundations - cheap security from the US and cheap energy from Russia. "Now all this has suddenly disappeared, and if the Americans themselves took security from America, then here they cut off their legs", Peskov emphasized. "What is happening? Why are they doing this? It is impossible to explain this with common sense, but it is a fact", he added.
The abrupt and thoughtless decisions of economic departments are dangerous and unacceptable. This is how Peskov commented on the risks of recession due to the excessively high key interest rate of the Central Bank.
He agreed with the head of the Ministry of Economic Development, Maxim Reshetnikov, that there are “risks of recession“ due to the high interest rate. “Someone will say that we should be ten times safer, because our economy is large, and the momentum is great“, Peskov recalled about the fourth place of the Russian economy in the world in terms of purchasing power parity.
“Therefore, it is impossible to make any abrupt decisions in any case“, concluded the presidential press secretary.
