“No malfunction of the vehicle has been established, except for the deformation from the impact with the wall, but even after it the brakes worked“, said in the “Interview in the NOVA news“ investigator and spokesperson for the National Investigation Service Marian Marinov in connection with the incident in “Sunny Beach”, which occurred on August 14, when 18-year-old Nikola Burgazliev rented the powerful electric vehicle and drove it along the alley in the resort. Then he lost control and, in order to avoid hitting an oncoming car, got on the sidewalk. There, he hit a 35-year-old couple from Plovdiv, along with their 4-year-old boy and the man's two nieces - aged 6 and 12.

“An ATV shouldn't have to stop hard if the brakes were used. In the case of Nikola Burgazliev, they weren't used. There are no signs of a braking distance and the machine was obviously moving the whole time until it hit the wall. The approximate speed was around 30 kilometers per hour“, added Marinov.

According to Marinov, the machine is not exactly an ATV, but falls into the category of “four-wheeled vehicle“, which can be driven by anyone with a B1 category. He specified that this type of vehicle is very easy to drive.

He specified that Burgazliev himself entered the oncoming traffic and is assumed to have been scared when he made a sharp maneuver.

The expert examination must answer the question of whether he had time to react and prevent the tragedy. The results will be ready by the end of the week at the latest.

Marinov emphasized that the defense requested that the control sample be tested and the request was honored by the prosecutor's office.

According to him, if the driver had used marijuana, even a few days ago, he should not have been driving the vehicle.
