The deceased police officer guarding a protest in Sofia is the brother of the mayor of Bistritsa, Samuil Chavdarov Popov, dariknews.bg reported.
The tragic news was announced by the mayor himself on social networks.
Ivaylo Popov, who was at work as a senior police officer, died suddenly this morning as a result of cardiovascular and respiratory failure. His colleagues immediately provided him with first aid, and an emergency team continued life-saving actions. Although he was taken to the University Hospital named after “N. I. Pirogov“ just two minutes after the ambulance arrived, his heart failed.
„I would like to express my gratitude to his colleagues with whom he was working and thanks to whom he received immediate medical assistance, to the ambulance team who continued to provide him with life-saving assistance, and to Dr. Yurukov from „Pirogov““, wrote Samuil Popov.
The funeral will take place on September 19, 2025 at 12:00 in the church „St. Martyr George the Victorious“ in the village of Bistritsa.
