The presidential elections will be key to shaping the political landscape. This was stated to the Bulgarian National Radio by former MEP Petar Vitanov.
He described the current political picture as a "tragedy".
"Effectivity, facade and nothing in substance".
Vitanov commented on the issue of the number of prime ministers that Bulgaria has.
"The cabinet, from which political decisions and the direction of the country are made, is not on "Dondukov", but on "National Assembly" Square. There are two people who politically govern the state – the leader of the MRF - New Beginning and the chairman of the GERB political party. The facade part are people who I can define as entourage".
He analyzes Rumen Radev's words that it is necessary to "build a wall against political corruption".
"President Radev has set himself up as a potential tool for overthrowing the government".
Vitanov described the current BSP government as "a shame for everyone who had anything to do with the leftist idea".
"The BSP has never looked so pitiful, sad and without prospects".
He even believes that this is the last time the Centennial will be presented in parliament.
"Because it has become a servitude to those who make decisions".
Vitanov believes that the hot potato of the water crisis is throwing himself into the BSP camp.
"When the time comes for resignation or parliamentary elections, the blame for not dealing with the water crisis will be thrown entirely on the BSP.
I would not be surprised if some structural reform is made in the tax model that will harm citizens and also blame it on the BSP. We are in a difficult financial and economic situation with a large deficit".
The opposition parties represented in parliament do not dream of early elections, the former MEP also believes.
"Their result will not be better. Only the ruling party would be interested, and only under one specific hypothesis. If Borisov decides that his personal and political freedom and flexibility are threatened more by Mr. Peevski than by President Radev, then he has every reason to resign. Objectively, there are no reasons for early elections, because GERB and DPS will never have a more suitable configuration for governance. But when the entire government is based on the relationships of two people, nothing is known".
