Boyko Borisov has the instinct to sense the change in public sentiment and has no problem parting with power. Thus, political analyst Georgi Harizanov commented on “Face to Face“ on bTV the words of the GERB leader that his party no longer has a place in this government and does not want to be a front.
Borisov's reaction comes after the results of the elections in Pazardzhik for municipal councilors, where “DPS-New Beginning“ came first, and GERB – sixth. Shortly after his comment, Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov canceled the government meeting scheduled for Wednesday.
Kharizanov did not rule out the possibility of going to early parliamentary elections.
“GERB is not a front for this government, on the contrary. I notice that they very often wash their hands of the government“, commented journalist Alexander Simov and added that Borisov has two options - to come to terms with the party's result in Pazardzhik or to call early elections.
Journalist Emilia Milcheva indicated that she was not surprised by Borisov's words: “One of the options for GERB to get out of this government is to call early elections in Borisov's favorite way - by resigning. If we go to early elections, they will be immediately after we enter the eurozone. GERB has fulfilled its historical task, it seems quite normal to me to demand new elections for new confidence“.
According to her, “Peevski has begun to “weigh“ heavily on the government. “In this way, Borisov is ahead of President Rumen Radev – to come out on the mat at a convenient moment“, Milcheva pointed out.
“It's all 50/50. But I don't think Borisov will go to elections right now – he won't look good, he'll look like he's been hit“, Simov added.
