Ruzha Smilova: Borisov does not have the strength to get rid of Peevski - 1

GERB's sixth place in the municipal council elections in Pazardzhik is not comfortable for the country's leading political force, political scientist Ruzha Smilova told BNR. According to her, this shows a tendency towards a shift of votes from GERB to DPS-New Beginning, which could also be observed in other places in the country.

"For the first time, Borisov has incurred losses from participation in power, very visible, and at the expense of partners in power," Smilova commented on the program "Predi visci". She emphasized that whenever Borisov has formed a coalition, smaller partners such as VMRO and the Patriotic Front have suffered, but now the trend is the opposite.

The GERB leader is not ready for a direct confrontation with the leader of MRF-New Beginning, but fears a loss of influence and a drain on his power by a competitor on whom his government depends, the political scientist believes. That is why now Borisov is showing that the entire governance of the country depends on him.

"Borisov does not dare to say that his problem is Peevski. He probably does not have enough strength to emancipate himself," said Smilova. She added that it is obvious that the government of Rosen Zhelyazkov currently depends on Peevski.

According to Smilova, the strategy of MRF-New Beginning is to adhere to actions that will weaken the opponent. Peevski adheres to every decision of the majority to demonstrate that they should be together and that MRF-New Beginning are also crucially important.

"He did the same during the coalition with PP-DB. At that time, there was no need for him to support, but Peevski, in order to impose himself in the public space, adhered to every decision of the majority," the political scientist explained.

Borisov realizes that joint governance with MRF-New Beginning will lead to the isolation of GERB and the country internationally, expressed Smilova. She pointed out that there was an unsuccessful attempt to remove both the leader of New Beginning and people closer to him, such as Vladislav Goranov, from the "Magnitsky" list.

"There is no way such a coalition can be "sold" even in the current, much-changed international configuration. Borisov realizes that their cooperation and clinging to his broad back of others is dangerous for him and he risks being sunk," said Smilova.

Asked about the public humiliation to which Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov was subjected, Smilova described it as "a psychologist's job to explain why people in such important positions are willing to endure such humiliation".

We remind you that on October 12, special elections were held for the municipal council in Pazardzhik, in which DPS-New Beginning won with 17.13 percent, and GERB remained in sixth place with 6.16 percent. On October 14, GERB leader Boyko Borisov made a sharp statement in which he questioned the party's participation in the government and demanded a reformatting of the cabinet.
