The garbage crisis in Sofia is still looking for a solution. Although 80% of the metropolitan areas of "Lyulin" and "Krasno Selo" are being cleaned on schedule, there are still problems with garbage collection. On the air of "The Day Begins" on BNT, the mayor of "Krasno Selo" said that no one has informed her how things will proceed from now on.
Tsveta Nikolaeva, mayor of the “Krasno Selo” district: "So far, no information has been sent to me, no meeting has been held to explain to us what is happening. It is generally known that I am not responsible for signing such contracts. And so far I do not have exact information on how it will proceed, whether the current public procurements will be terminated, whether they will be re-awarded, what will be the principle on which they will be awarded. Unfortunately, such information cannot come out from me, since I do not have it either. So far, no information has been sent to me, no meeting has been held to explain to us what is happening. In principle, it is not normal for me to seek information, we should have such. Moreover, exactly what you said, that we are closest to the citizens, we are in daily contact with the citizens. I already know probably 90% of the volunteer actions, the leaders of the actions, who are absolutely normal, intelligent people and are trying to deal with the situation. We communicate constantly, I am told, we have a little more garbage collected here, can it be taken away? That is what we are doing. But we are doing what is within our capabilities. From then on, I cannot comment on who decides how to inform us and whether they even think that our opinion matters"
Garbage collection, according to Nikolaeva, has improved, but "it is not what it should be".
"A huge part of the people have changed their habits. I would say that in the last week, the amount of waste thrown into the colored containers has doubled, which is commendable. I personally want to thank the citizens of the "Krasno Selo" district, because they really showed that they can do things in a much better way, not to mention the number of volunteers who are involved in all the actions, which is simply an example to follow. It is imperative to have a schedule that resembles the schedule that was before the crisis, in order to be effective and have visible results. Realistically, we should have a result today - how much equipment and how far it will process the area."
A schedule for processing against rodents is expected this week.
"Unfortunately, last week I signaled the Sofia Municipality with a request to process the points for which we have similar signals. The risk to the health of my people is the biggest risk that we currently face. And that is why we hope that such epidemics will not occur. I assume that this week I will receive a schedule according to which they will be processed, since, indeed, it is clear to us that rodents come out when there is food, and there is plenty of it."
"I assume that the long-term perspective should be announced today, because we are currently talking about garbage collection, and at the same time, there is no street sweeping and cleaning from garbage and litter. Accordingly, it is October 20 and snowfall is most likely coming, which is also a huge problem. After all, we have the largest emergency medical center "Pirogov", which is necessarily serviced under a special regime. Especially when there is snow. First treatment is done there. And these questions really need to be answered, because society is worried."
