Yuri Aslanov: The stability of the government may look good from the outside, but it is only apparent - 1

"There can be no plus for the BSP in the rotation of the speaker of the parliament. No matter what they decided at their plenum, the BSP will not correct their main mistake: that they accepted participation in the current ruling coalition at all. From the point of view of the principles and ideological orientation of this party, the price they pay and will pay is ultimately very heavy. Therefore, it does not matter at all what they decide regarding the rotation, and it is not at all that important from the point of view of the accumulating problems facing the country's politics who exactly will be the speaker of the National Assembly". He said this in the program "Metronome" on Radio "Focus" sociologist Yuri Aslanov.

"The Bulgarian Socialist Party has a very rich experience in participating in such governing formats and the leadership of this party should be aware that this has never ended well. The price it has paid and will pay now is always very heavy.“

According to him, the stability of the government may look good from the outside, but it is illusory. According to him, the excitement and expectations of society are related more to problems of a more everyday nature, and not so much to the interests of the party elites. "The difficult budgetary situation that is emerging before the state, combined with the expected problems in the transition to the euro from the beginning of next year, this forms a high social tension that is outside the agenda of politicians,“ he said and added that this discrepancy in the agenda between the people and the politicians will not lead to anything good.

The sociologist also added that a very difficult year is expected in economic and social terms, which "against the backdrop of increasing international challenges, geopolitical, etc., I fear that the lives of Bulgarians will become more difficult. And this cannot but affect the attitude towards the authorities, which is not particularly flattering anyway".

According to Aslanov, the main political intrigue in recent weeks has shifted from Borisov-Radev to Borisov-Peevski, caused by the loss of trust between the long-standing partners. "Beyond the surface, there are some reasons for a potential conflict to ripen between them in the future," he believes, and according to the analyst, this gives President Radev, who is the strong third player, some time and peace. "He is obviously biding his time, he is not in a hurry to make any decisions to appear directly on the political scene. In my opinion, it may not happen at all, despite the many prophecies and predictions circulating in the public space. But if it does happen, it will put him in a strong position vis-à-vis the other two, who will be forced to fight on two fronts - each other and with him, and so far he has withstood the united front of both of them.“
