Protests under the slogan “Freedom for Political Prisoners“ are taking place tonight in Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv.
The demonstrations are organized by “We Continue the Change” and are demanding the immediate release of Varna Mayor Blagomir Kotsev and former Deputy Mayor of Sofia Nikola Barbutov.
The protesters are also against Kotsev remaining detained and governing the seaside capital from custody.
In Sofia, people have blocked the "Independence" Square, and from the podium, former co-chairman of the People's Party Kiril Petkov announced that the place where Kotsev and Barbutov have been moved is the most terrible place for prisoners in Bulgaria.
"This Bulgaria will belong to mayors who do not bend, who, when they put them in the punishment cell, say: "I will not surrender!", said Petkov.
In Varna, people gathered in front of the municipality and marched. In Plovdiv, demonstrators gathered at “Unity” Square.
We recall that yesterday, November 19, it became clear that Kotsev himself ordered that from November 19 to December 5 inclusive, the functions of mayor of Varna Municipality be performed by Deputy Mayor Snezhana Apostolova.
