Experience certainly shows that such protests do not end with just one amendment to the budget. They end either with a reformatting of the government or with early elections. This was stated by Genoveva Petrova, a sociologist from “Alpha Research” on BNT, quoted by novini.bg.
“The protest showed a lot of things. Quite a few young people prevailed - students, pupils. People who don't pay taxes, who haven't put two stones on top of each other in their lives and it's unlikely that the budget is their biggest problem. Separately, give a leaflet to a teenager what not to do and watch how he does it. The organizers should know that such an outcome is the most likely. To pretend not to understand, not to hear, not to see is naive. It is clear that the organizers of the event are the most responsible, believes political scientist Assoc. Prof. Stoycho Stoychev.
Political scientist Prof. Maria Pirgova commented: “The message to the government will be long-term: “This government is over both as a model, as a government, and as ruling parties.” I see in the protest a long-term process of change in Bulgaria and the guarantee for this are precisely the young people. The protest is peaceful and extremely civilized.”
According to Petrova, there is clearly public tension: “This is a wave of discontent, regardless of whether it manifests itself in the form of weekly protests or not, which will not stop unless it is reformatted.”
”The opposition is more hesitant than the protesters themselves, it will have to catch up with them. It does not know what it will do from now on. I think Borisov will withdraw the budget. If not, the protest will become even more radicalized. They may even form a new government. Within the framework of this budget, the PP-DB can replace Peevski in the majority, which would be a fatal mistake. The other way is to the president”, said Prof. Pirgova.
„People definitely did not go to protest against the budget, but to overthrow the government. When you are against the budget, you are against the government program of the cabinet and, accordingly, the majority remaining in power. People are not protesting against the system, they want a better life, but this does not mean that the next system will give them a better life. Citizens do not win, those who have political projects and intentions win”, added Assoc. Prof. Stoychev.
„If this cabinet wants to stay, it must change the Supreme Judicial Council, otherwise it will be swept away. We will see Borisov's games with the budget – he can more easily replace Temenuzhka Petkova instead of Daniel Mitov. She is there for that, why not?”, suggested Prof. Pirgova.
