A Border Police ship with a crew of 17 headed to the stranded tanker "Kairos" near Ahtopol. The vessel has been in Bulgarian waters for the sixth day, after a Turkish tugboat left it near our border.
This is the first operation at sea, the previous ones were postponed due to bad weather. There are representatives of the "Maritime Administration" on board, who will inspect the condition of the tanker, which was attacked by Ukrainian drones.
The ship is 280 meters long and 50 meters wide, and it also has a helipad. According to the crew, it is empty.
Five of the previously evacuated sailors from the crew have also headed to the vessel, three of whom will replace those who remained on the tanker. The two will return.
In the past few days, a total of 7 sailors from the 10-member crew of the “Kairos“. were evacuated by air. Within 24 hours, three flights were carried out by the “Panther“ helicopter of the Air Force in difficult weather conditions.
Captain Dimo Tyufekchiev managed to descend in strong wind and rain from the helicopter hovering 40 meters above the tanker. He coped with the task and the sailors were pulled into the helicopter without any problems. The pilot Georgi Tonev admits that the situation was complicated, but also routine for them.
