President Rumen Radev is the main political beneficiary from the resignation of the Rosen Zhelyazkov cabinet. This opinion was expressed in the program “ Offensive with Lyubo Ognyanov” by political scientist Dimitar Ganev.
According to him, the protests have led to a fundamentally new political situation, in which the ruling majority has entered an agonizing phase, and any additional stay in power would only bring damage to the parties in power.
According to him, since the beginning of the protests, the pressure on the cabinet has been extremely strong, even though the ruling party formally had a parliamentary majority.
“After the protests began, we had a completely new political situation in the country. The government was put under very strong pressure. They had, in my opinion, a stable majority, that is, they could last at least another month, two, three. But this government has certainly entered an agonizing phase“, said the political scientist.
According to him, any extension of the cabinet's life would have worsened the positions of the parties in the ruling configuration. “From now on, every single day, remaining as part of this configuration, would have been a loss for the parties that make up the majority. Staying in power for a few more months will leave them in a worse situation“, Ganev emphasized.
He was categorical that for some of the participants in the government, the negatives are particularly serious.
“Specifically for ITN, there is no doubt that participation in this cabinet will bring them certain image damage“, said the political scientist and outlined the main challenge facing the party in the future.
“From now on, however, the big challenge for them is a possible project by Rumen Radev. Because from there, there could also be some kind of electoral migration towards this project“
The issue is similar with the BSP.
“The case with the BSP is identical to that of the ITN“, Ganev believes.
According to him, it will be a serious test for both formations whether they will manage to find a place in the next parliament.
