“This budget, even in the revised version, is not good enough for Bulgaria next year and does not lay a good foundation for economic stability“, said former Finance Minister Milen Velchev on bTV.
According to him, the main problem is in the expenditure side - too high costs are being set and an unjustified amount is being spent, which leads to an increase in debt in the medium term.
According to him, it is better to compromise and adopt an extended budget that will build on this year's.
“The important thing is not to assume expenses that are much higher than those for this year, and thus tie the hands of the future regular government. We hope that we will have a stable government after the elections that are looming on the horizon“, Velchev believes.
According to him, we must choose the lesser evil. He admitted that it would be a bad signal if we entered the eurozone with an old budget, but we would give a worse signal by showing that we would quickly become indebted.
According to Milen Velchev, it would not be a problem to have a caretaker government when entering the eurozone.
“Everything that is necessary for a smooth entry into the eurozone has already been decided. Nothing from now on depends on our government - be it regular or caretaker. "No format of it can sabotage this process," the former finance minister believes.
When asked if there would be people "who would cry over the unadopted budget," he replied that many people would hope for it to be adopted for the wrong reasons.
"Certainly some of us are periodically waiting for a new messiah, but I hope that the more sensible of us have understood that messiahs do not solve our problems - we have to solve them ourselves," Milen Velchev pointed out.
