Gen. Konstantin Popov: Radev's exit at this moment is a mistake - 1

The beginning of a key political week, in which several unknowns must be clarified - how President Rumen Radev will participate in the early elections, as well as when they will be held.

Internationally, there are also question marks - what will be the tasks of the Peace Council created by Donald Trump, in which the Bulgarian Prime Minister resigned last week.

All this was commented on by Gen. Konstantin Popov, former chief of defense, on the air of "This Morning" on bTV.

„I know President Radev very well, but I will not comment on him as a colleague. I have respect for all the people who have served in the Bulgarian army and I believe that we should maintain mutual respect and trust. And not the "Vasil Levski" Airport to be a starting point to happiness, but to be an entrance, he said.
And he announced – – Radev's exit at this moment is a mistake“.

–From a tactical level it looks good – we have a government in resignation, we have people on the streets, of course a serious vote can be gathered, thanks to the dissatisfaction, but strategically I think it does not look good“, said Gen. Popov.

In his words, “we need our president most precisely when we are in crisis“.

When asked if he told Rumen Radev that he was making a mistake by submitting his resignation as head of state, Gen. Popov denied it. Because according to him, he is “reasonable enough to make his own decision“.
“It is important for me what our new president – Mrs. Yotova will say. Does she agree with President Radev's actions, because she is a woman with vast political experience. She has been at the top of our political life for decades and if she says “yes”, then the door opens for every president to have a cause and leave the presidency whenever he wants and whenever he deems it good. And this, in my opinion, is a mistake“, he said.

When asked if he would join Rumen Radev's potential political project, he was categorical:

“I do not participate in party building. I was an MP, but I have never been a member of GERB. So my idea, vision and belief is that I can be useful everywhere and it is not at all necessary to be part of political projects“.
Asked if he would still refuse an offer, he was laconic:

“Most likely yes“.
