A few days before the Bulgarian lev finally makes history as the official currency, the Bulgarian National Bank reported a record amount of deposits for the past year.
According to BNB data, as of December, household deposits in banks exceeded BGN 107 billion. In one year, deposited funds have increased by nearly 20%, according to central bank data.
At the same time, household loans amounted to over BGN 56 billion. Compared to the same month in 2024, they have increased by more than 21%.
BNB data also indicate that housing loans continue to increase at a faster pace than consumer loans.
