Former head of the National Security Agency: Investigators made mistakes with the "Petrohan" case - 1

Former chairman of the National Security Agency Tsvetlin Yovchev commented on the air of "Denyat ON AIR" the official information of the Ministry of Interior, according to which the shell casings found in the "Petrohan" hut were not fired from a firearm different from the one already established in the case.

According to him, a serious error was made in communication by the investigating authorities.

"Typical, just one of the next mistakes - that the investigators did not consider that they should report about these shell casings, because at the moment this information was unofficially released, all kinds of conspiracy theories developed. Once an opinion and attitude has been formed, it is very difficult now with this information that they will release to change the opinion of many people. And this gives grounds for these conspiracy theories and rumors to continue to develop," Yovchev told Bulgaria ON AIR.

Yovchev believes that in the case of such a serious crime, even in the hypothesis of suicide with possible incitement, it was necessary to mobilize resources much faster.

"There was a mistake in the information campaign from day one, since this is an extremely serious crime, I would call it that, because even if it were a suicide, it is very likely that there was incitement - at least from the information available so far. And when there is such a serious crime, which really - as if there are very few such crimes in the history of Bulgaria that have happened so far - responsible factors should have come forward as quickly as possible and provided the necessary information," he said.

Regarding speculations about whether there were secret collaborators in the group, Yovchev explained that a public answer to such a question cannot be given in principle.

The law provides for the protection of their identity, since disclosure could endanger their lives or compromise current developments.

He emphasized that if there are doubts, an inspection can be carried out through the prosecutor's office or through the parliamentary committee for control over the services, following a decision by the National Assembly. All actions with secret collaborators are strictly documented - from selection to their release.

According to Yovchev, the investigation should develop in two main directions - quickly revealing the crime and examining all contacts and activities of the individuals involved in order to establish the motive. He does not exclude the possibility that more serious reasons exist beneath the surface, including links to more serious crimes.
