In the last two weeks of meetings in the country, and today /b. r. yesterday/ in Montana, I sense a revival in the BSP. I hope this will grow into energy, and that into a political result that will give us a mandate for clear actions, said this evening in Montana, the chairman of the BSP Krum Zarkov, after a meeting with citizens and the party's active members in the city and the region.
He commented that for the upcoming elections, the BSP is starting from a low base, as it has lost part of its electorate due to entering a Peevski-dominated government in the last year. We can restore trust by clearly showing that we have understood this mistake and that the people who made it bear their responsibility, and that others give a guarantee that it will not be repeated, believes Zarkov. But still, this is only one year in the 134-year history of the BSP. This one year cannot erase everything that the BSP can and should be, he added.
The BSP must continue to be a factor in Bulgarian politics and this is important not only for the socialists, but for all Bulgarian citizens, for all supporters of democracy, for all working people, said the party chairman. Krum Zarkov pointed out that from now on, the BSP will enter power only on the basis of clear principles and a program, and not to receive a few ministerial seats. We will participate in government only if we can implement a policy that the party has previously presented to the people and for which it has received approval, he noted. I have instructed the new members of the Executive Bureau that if they are elected for one or the other, they will have to leave the bureau and deal with what they were elected for. In the bureau, we will deal with party and ideological work and with what a party should do - to identify the legitimate interests, in our case of working people, and to defend them, Zarkov said.
BSP leader Krum Zarkov also commented on the current political situation and stated that it is currently characterized by a power vacuum. “The old government, which was personified mostly by Peevski and the people around him, has not yet let go of the reins and is trying to hold onto its positions in conditions of attack. The new government, which is the caretaker government and which will eventually be implemented after the elections, is first weak from the point of view of the caretaker government and unclear from the point of view of the election results. This creates conditions of dynamism, in which something happens every day. We will see the final result in a few months. "A key event that will happen in the coming days is the initiative of the new acting Minister of Justice Andrey Yankulov regarding the illegally occupying the position of Prosecutor General Borislav Sarafov," Zarkov said.
