Ivan Hristanov: There is no immediate threat to Bulgaria - 1

At the moment, there is no direct threat to the country's security after the escalation in the Middle East, but the cabinet is constantly analyzing the possible economic effects. The Ministry of Agriculture and Food is preparing economic forecasts for different scenarios. This was announced by the relevant Minister Ivan Hristanov in "The Day Begins with Georgi Lyubenov" on BNT.

"We have an official position. It is that at least for the moment, what my colleagues from both the cabinet and the services are analyzing, there is no immediate threat to Bulgaria," the minister said.

According to him, the country also relies on allied defense.

The minister emphasized that the relevant department is preparing economic forecasts for various scenarios, including the possible closure of the Strait of Hormuz.

"We are also making economic forecasts, what would be the effect of the closure of the Strait of Hormuz - short-term, long-term - on the prices of fertilizers, of the main energy carriers."

He added that Bulgaria's dependence on energy supplies from the region is limited.

"Bulgaria is not particularly dependent on supplies of liquefied gas or oil from the Middle East. We don't expect any major effects."

The minister also commented on a signal of irregularities in a public procurement for tens of millions of leva.

"There is a company that is responsible for an activity assigned by the state for 45 million leva. This company has literally sucked out 87 million leva in the last few years. It is also preparing to suck out another 30 million leva," he said.

According to him, an inspection is currently underway by the inspectorate and internal audit, and ADFI will also be involved. He expressed confidence that the case will reach the prosecutor's office.

The minister said that the attacks against him and his team are the result of vested interests.
