The first session of the 52nd National Assembly will be held today. The new MPs will gather at exactly 10 a.m. to take the oath.
The first bell will be rung by the oldest MP Rumen Milanov from “Progressive Bulgaria”.
The official part will be in the presence of President Iliana Yotova.
The first task of the new 240 MPs is the election of a speaker of the parliament. Among the names being considered are former caretaker Prime Minister Galab Donev and lawyers Mihaela Dotsova and Prof. Yanka Tyankova, all from “Progressive Bulgaria”.
“Vazrazhdane” announced that they will also propose their candidate. Traditionally, the parliamentary groups will read declarations with their priorities.
After a leadership meeting yesterday, it became clear that the PP and the DB will register two parliamentary groups in the new National Assembly. Thus, there will be 5 parties and 6 parliamentary groups in the parliament. The largest will be that of "Progressive Bulgaria" with a majority of 131 deputies.
The next group is that of GERB-SDF with 39 deputies.
After the split, the PP will have 16 deputies, and the DB - 21 deputies, the MRF - 21, and the smallest group is that of "Vazrazhdane" with 12 deputies.
