The last group of participants from the 32nd National Antarctic Expedition is coming home - 1

The last group of participants from the 32nd National Antarctic Expedition is returning today at 3:35 p.m., to Terminal 2 of the Sofia airport, with a flight from Rome, the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute reported, BTA reported.

The group returning to our country includes the deputy director of the National Center for Polar Research Dragomir Mateev, the commander of the Bulgarian Antarctic Station “St. Kliment Ohridski” during the expedition Kamen Nedkov, the pilot and field assistant Elka Vasileva and the builders of the laboratory block - Kiril Zhechev, Nikolay Ivanov, Todor Todorov, Valentin Alexandrov and Damyan Morandov.

The Bulgarian Antarctic Institute recalls that, in addition to the crew of the military research ship “St. St. Cyril and Methodius” (NIK421), which was an integral part of the expedition, over 49 people took part in it, including one Scottish, one Turkish, two Portuguese and twenty-two Bulgarian scientists, two doctors and six journalists.

As BTA wrote, among the main successes of this expedition, in parallel with the implementation of numerous scientific projects, is the completion of the construction of the new modern laboratory block on Livingston Island.

Finally, the expedition will end with the return of NIK 421 to the port of Varna, which is expected to happen on April 3, 2024.
