Fears that electricity for household consumers will become more expensive starting July 1 due to their transition to the free market, have also caused controversy in the National Assembly in recent days. With today's decision of the Council of Ministers on the budget of the Ministry of Energy, 1.6 billion BGN additional funds will be transferred. Over BGN 700 million of this amount will be contributed by the state-owned company to the “Power System Security” Fund to cover the deficit that arose due to the reduced income from greenhouse quotas and from the sale of power plants.
According to the energy expert and former Deputy Minister of Energy Elenko Bozhkov, this decision of the government is a legal outrage, but it will still manage to keep the electricity prices for end users, in view of the upcoming liberalization of the market.< br />
What the Council of Ministers did, with which it tries to somehow return the money to the fund, is a legal outrage, because it violates all the rules of the European Union for state aid. Things are done that cannot be done.
“Still, with this money, taken in an incorrect, I can even call it illegal way, it will probably be possible to hold down the prices, so that this increase does not happen compared to the current ones by at least 20%,”, commented the energy expert in the Euronews Primetime studio.
“It should be noted here that the deficit in the fund is much larger than the one needed to compensate the prices for household consumers. I'm not sure that the money that will come into the fund now will be enough for that“, warned Bozhkov.
Elenko Bozhkov: With the new funds in the energy fund, the danger of an increase in the price of electricity is sharply
The deficit in the fund is much larger than what is needed to offset the prices for residential consumers, the energy expert said.
