The Veliko Tarnovo organization of the BSP did not nominate Atanas Pekanov and Petar Vitanov as MEPs. This is clear from a position sent to the media.
"On the occasion of Atanas Pekanov's claims that the Veliko Tarnovo organization of the BSP nominated him as a member of the European Parliament, we must make the following clarifications. On March 30, 2024, a Municipal Conference of the BSP-Veliko Tarnovo was held. It was attended by 91 delegates.
The municipal conference voted to send only members of the BSP, not representatives of factions and civil quota, to the National Council of the party. A transcript-excerpt from the minutes was sent on the same day by the party's organizational department. That is why there is no way that Veliko Tarnovo socialists could have supported the candidacy of Atanas Pekanov or Petar Vitanov, who arrived at the meeting unexpectedly and left before its end," it states.
The position also notes:
"In this regard, we ask certain individuals not to ascribe authority to the back of the oldest party organization in the country."
