Petar Slavov on Eurozone fears: Everyone born in 1920 who ate pickles died

It is no longer a secret to anyone that the criterion we cannot meet is inflation. We have no problems with the rest. But most likely, until April-May, when the data should be analyzed, we won't be able to do it

"The fact that Bulgaria was left without a regular cabinet does not distance us from the euro. Quite the opposite – we are getting closer and closer to it and less and less until we enter the Eurozone”. This was stated on the air of “120 minutes” Petar Slavov, Chairman of the Board of Directors of one of the major banks.

„Among the criteria for entering the Eurozone, there is no requirement that the country has a stable government and that the politicians do not fight in the newspapers and in front of the people. The criteria are macroeconomic, but what is happening in Bulgaria is certainly being read and analyzed from the outside, he also stated.

„It is no longer a secret to anyone that the criterion we cannot meet is inflation. We have no problems with the rest. But most likely, until April-May, when the data should be analyzed, we won't be able to do it. There will be a biennial report in June. But we were also told that even if we didn't make it by June, they would look at our data again in September. There was goodwill towards us, but now it can be compromised from a political point of view. You know – "You can't give by force, you can only take by force," comments Slavov.

"All the people who were born in 1920 and ate pickles died - that is, be careful with pickles, they cause death. For two events to have happened at the same time does not mean that there is a cause and effect relationship between them. The same with inflation and the entry of a country into the Eurozone. It does not mean that one is a cause or consequence of the other," the expert pointed out.

"On the other hand, however, our entry into the Eurozone is an event - it will be the first and last time. There will probably be business entities that will celebrate in a specific way, and it is possible that it will be exactly in the direction of speculation," explained Petar Slavov.

In his words, a country cannot be rich but have low taxes. The expert also comments on the flat tax in our country, as well as interest.
