No more hassles for drivers: No "Civil Liability" sticker on the windshield - 1

The sticker for the presence of insurance “Civil liability“ it will no longer sting the eyes of drivers because it will be moved from the glass of the insurance policy itself.

This foresees a draft of changes to the Insurance Code prepared by the Ministry of Finance and submitted by the Council of Ministers to the National Assembly, noted novini.bg.

However, this will only be temporary, as part of a transition period, until the hated sticker issued by the Guarantee Fund is completely removed from January 1, 2027.

Until December 31, 2026, the sticker in the form of a hologram sign will be stuck on the insurance policy. And from the beginning of 2027, it will be replaced by a machine-readable two-dimensional barcode.

An ordinance is to be adopted to regulate the issuance of the sign within the transitional period until the end of 2026, in the event that the proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Act come into force, which provide for the elimination of sticking the sticker on the windshield, the Commission for Financial Supervision indicated to "Telegraph".

The sign that will be stuck on the policy will probably be a hologram with a number and will not contain all the previous sticker details.

Thus, its price will be reduced, possibly half of the current BGN 1.40, which is paid by car drivers, insurance experts indicated. The hologram will certify that the policy is regular.

And the code, which will replace it from 2027, will provide a direct link to the Guarantee Fund system, where it will be checked whether a “Civil Liability” has been concluded for the respective vehicle.

As part of the public discussion of the changes in the insurance code, the MoF received a bunch of proposals from consumers and insurance companies to drop the sticker as completely unnecessary.

In his comment, one of the largest insurers categorically objects to the hologram of the insurance policy, because in practice this reinforces the existing situation, without there being a public need for it.

The proposal to replace the sticker with a policy code is the company's and it has been accepted in principle by the Ministry of Finance, but with a transitional period.
