Slavcho Velkov: Iran would not want a full-scale war - 1

Netanyahu's words that the response to the Iranian attack must be carried out smartly are the latest staging of the prime minister of Israel, which in any case would not involve the use of such means and methods as Iran did, commented international security expert Slavcho Velkov in "Denyat ON AIR".

He described the threats on both sides as apocalyptic.

"Neither Israel can collapse Iran in 10 hours, nor can Iran turn Jerusalem and Tel Aviv into dust. This has been the rhetoric for years. "Iran has taken such actions for the first time in its recent history, a large-scale attack," Velkov pointed out.

In his words, Iran could have chosen a response similar to what happened to their consulate in Damascus.

"It is a matter of decision-making by the state leadership, but there were not many options. He didn't choose this way, he wanted to show his people inside Iran, including the opposition, that Iran is capable of retaliating against such strikes, that their weapons can reach Israel without a problem," the expert told Bulgaria ON AIR .

According to Velkov, this is not the full potential of Iran, its power is great.

"Both sides have achieved a decisive goal. One side is always experienced as the side that has achieved victory. The line that Iran has crossed is not a red line, but there is one that it would not cross in relation to the US. Iran would not want a full-scale war," he analyzed.

"The US has stated categorically that it will not engage in a large-scale response against Iran, but will support Israel. A significant number of these drones were shot down far from the territory of Israel. The Middle East stands at the wide open gates of Hell. Netanyahu appears as the savior of the nation, but at the same time we know that things inside Israel are not like that at all. He is subjected not only to destructive criticism, but also to protests because of the hostages and Gaza," the expert summarized.

The gates of Hell can only be closed with peace, but there is no peace on the horizon in the Middle East, Velkov added.

"Biden has no interest in war, he doesn't want to be the person who helps wars in the course of the election campaign. Trump's words are a campaign platform. Events in the Middle East will continue to produce migration flows. The region is not far from Bulgaria. There are indirect risks for Bulgaria's security as well," he concluded.
