Nearly 100 Bulgarians are blocked at the airport in Dubai. The country was hit by heavy rains that caused floods. The airport remained under water, and flights were cancelled.

Antonina Tsankova is one of our compatriots who are in Dubai. The group of Bulgarians is about 80 people. They were supposed to land here around 8pm on Wednesday. They have been standing at the airport for 11 o'clock. On the spot, the consul of Bulgaria visited our compatriots and brought them food and water, Nova TV reported.

Antonina said that during the floods, taxis in Dubai asked exorbitant amounts for transportation, which varied between BGN 350 and BGN 600. Even tourists had to bid to get into a taxi. The subway was also under water.

Dubai Airport is still unable to recover from the deadly storms in the United Arab Emirates and Oman. Record amounts of rain poured over the Gulf states. The downpours caused flooding on runways and chaos at the world's second-busiest airport. The management urged passengers not to come to the airport unless absolutely necessary.

Today, Terminal 1, used by foreign carriers, resumed receiving incoming flights, but traffic remains severely disrupted. According to the authorities in the United Arab Emirates, this is the heaviest rainfall since 1949.
