Legendary Jaromir Jagr added another achievement to his impressive calling card after becoming the oldest goal scorer in professional ice hockey on Thursday night on ice, reported Topsport.
Jagr, who is 52 years and 63 days old, returned to the ice for Kladno in his native Czech Republic and scored his first goal of the season in the second game of the playoffs to stay in the country's elite division.
Kladno hosted a convincing 7:2 victory against the Vsetin team and increased its lead in the series to 2-0, where it is played to three wins in five matches. For Jager, this is the 36th season in professional hockey, and at the same time he is also one of the owners of the Kladno team - his hometown.
He played for a number of teams in the United States and Canada's National Hockey League (NHL), another recognition of his class came at the start of the season when the number 68 Pittsburgh Penguins jersey was retired. With this team, he won the Stanley Cup. in 1991 and 1992, and three years earlier he also entered the League with them from the draft.
Jaeger knocked off the record of another ice legend - Canadian icon Gordie Howe, who played his last official game in the League at the age of 52 years and 11 days - a playoff meeting with the Hartford Whalers, two days earlier scored his last goal in another game of the series.
Howe returned to the ice at the age of 69 in 1997 with the Detroit Vipers of the IHL (International Hockey League).
Jaeger played a total of 24 years in the NHL, was selected as an eight-time All-Star and was the top scorer in the goal + assist system five times. His North American career ended with 766 goals (fourth all-time), 1,155 assists and 1,921 points (second all-time) in 1,733 total games.
