Behind the fact that the US Congress approved nearly $61 billion in aid to Ukraine, there are several important moments. First, it is a strong message because there was uncertainty, there was too much debate. However, this decision sends a clear message that Ukraine will continue to be supported.
This was said in the Euronews PrimeTime studio by the international analyst and former chairman of the Committee on Foreign Policy of the National Assembly Dimitar Gurdev.
The aid was so delayed because the issue entered the US domestic political debate. It was actively used by both contenders who are already in the pre-election race. What struck me was that Donald Trump's position was that this aid should be tied to funding the construction of defense facilities along the Mexican border.
„This issue has created incredible problems, but the Republicans themselves have separated this topic from the aid package for Ukraine. In doing so, they abandoned the position of their candidate, Donald Trump. This is really indicative, especially in the final phase of the race, that in the Republican Party there is a different view of Trump's ideas, Dimitar Gurdev also commented.
According to him, it is extremely telling that the foreign policy and that of security and defense is constant, regardless of who will enter the White House.
