Alexander Dunchev: The use of firewood does not bring any added value - 1

"The question is Does Bulgaria have so much forest to cut down more? Absolutely not. According to science, Bulgaria has the right, and this is enshrined in the law and the plans of the forestry farms, to cut no more than 60% of what the forests grow with each year. A forest is not a wheat field that, if fertilized with chemicals every year, can be harvested. The forest is a natural ecosystem into which we have no right to introduce chemistry.

This is what the former PP-DB MP and member of the "Green Movement" told BNT. Alexander Dunchev.

Wood processors want more to be cut so that there is cheaper wood for them, he believes. According to him, the use of firewood does not bring any added value.

"Bulgarian forests are the only protection against floods, drought, loss of fertility. If they are not cared for by forest rangers, they suffer from storms, fires, insects, illegal logging, which is nearly a tenth of the timber harvest.

Bulgarian forestry is one of the greenest and most advanced in Europe, Dunchev said. According to him, the main problem is that the politicians decide what happens in the forests, not the foresters. Therefore, one of its goals is the creation of a state forestry agency, so that forest officials can be stimulated to really take care of the forests.
