Bulgaria met the criteria for the Eurozone already in 2021. This was stated to NOVA by the former Deputy Minister of Economy and a candidate for MP from “Blue Bulgaria” Nikola Yankov.
„We were supposed to enter at the beginning of 2023 together with Croatia. This was part of our road map, which was approved in 2018. Unfortunately, then the first caretaker government with Finance Minister Asen Vasilev unilaterally postponed our membership without arguments. There was a problem of political will. Now it's like that again. Years ago, GERB also had the opportunity to introduce the euro, but they didn't do it, he explained.
When asked if there should be an overprice for bread, the candidate for deputy said the following:
„Strange initiative, anti-social policy. This will lead to shortages, market disruption in this segment and greater costs to society as a whole. If we introduce controls in every single product category, we are telling private producers that they cannot make a normal profit, or someone has to cover the difference between the government-fixed price and their cost.
