„It would be too ambitious for me to give an assessment of the services. Intelligence agencies are not allowed to look inside by law. But if it comes to DANS, the military counterintelligence, the military police - they have reason to deal only with internal processes and to protect the country from threats and events that could affect national security.
This is what Dimo Gyaurov, former director of the National Intelligence Service, said in the bTV studio.
„I would not rule out, completely unregulated, the services eavesdropping on politicians. But we must realize that the politicians themselves are to blame. Why? Well, we already have 4 years of expired mandate of the main structure, which should deal with the control of the CPCs. So - what should we expect? Even the National Assembly itself does not control the services in any way, Gyaurov also said in connection with the leaked recordings of meetings of "We continue the change". and added:
„I'm not sure the recordings were made by the services, more like a phone from inside, although one of the recordings sounds like it's from a fixed microphone.
Regarding concerns about Russian espionage among members of one of the parties entering the National Assembly after the elections, he emphasized:
„If people enter the National Assembly for whom there is definite data and evidence that they work in the service of a foreign country, how will they be admitted tomorrow to classified information, which they have by law as deputies.“
Gyaurov is adamant that there must be civil control over the services:
It is also well regulated around the world. However, we don't have any. The classic form of such control is the National Assembly. But here's a hypothesis – one of these gentlemen, who advertises himself as a Russian spy, joins the Commission on the Control of Services.“
„I did not hear President Rumen Radev talk about conscription, and we should not be impressed by raising the topic. She is important to us. The president is right that young people need to be trained. Many places in Europe are considering the restoration of the barracks”, Gyaurov believes.
„Putin's proposal is not a serious proposal. It is another PR for internal use. This is even insulting, and this is also the reaction of Ukraine”, he commented on Vladimir Putin's conditions for achieving peace.
„This betrays his further intentions – he has no intention, despite the difficulties on the front facing both sides and the difficulties facing the Russian economy, he continues to wage the war, with no clear end in sight," added Dimo Gyaurov.
